Former NBA forward Kyle Singler was arrested earlier this week in Oklahoma after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, according to multiple reports. Police say the former Duke standout – who played for the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder – was taken into custody after a disturbing domestic violence incident.
Authorities in Whitehead responded to a call from a woman who claimed Singler, her live-in boyfriend and father of her child, had chased her during a violent altercation.
According to News on 6, the woman told police that Singler, allegedly under the influence of drugs, became enraged when she refused his advances. He then allegedly threatened to rape her, pushed her to the ground, and assaulted her.
Singler has been in trouble for months
KFOR reported that officers observed bruising on the woman’s arms and finger marks on her face. Singler was arrested and booked into the Haskell County Jail. The 36-year-old’s arrest follows a series of troubling public episodes.
Last November, Singler posted a string of alarming, shirtless videos on social media, claiming he had been “mistreated and abused” and that the world was in the midst of a “religious war.” In the videos, he said, “I fear for my life every day,” and accused people in his community of trying to portray him as dangerous.
At the time, Oregon’s Medford Police Department confirmed they were aware of Singler’s posts, while the NBA Players Association stated they had reached out to his family, offering “any and all support” to help him.
Singler had a brief and lackluster career
Once celebrated as a college basketball hero, Singler helped lead Duke to the 2010 national championship and was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player.
Drafted in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Pistons, he went on to play six seasons in the league before stepping away from basketball in 2019.
Now, his arrest adds a dark turn to a career once defined by promise and success on the court.
