Former world champion Fernando Vargas has found his family back in the headlines after his son, Fernando Vargas Jr., was arrested following a car crash at Universal Studios.
The incident happened Thursday night in a Universal Studios parking structure, where the younger Vargas was involved in a three-vehicle collision shortly before 8 p.m.
“Boxer Fernando Vargas Jr. was arrested Thursday night following a three-vehicle crash in a Universal Studios parking structure,” an NBC 4 report cited by EssentiallySports stated.
Authorities said nobody was injured in the collision, but Vargas Jr. was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The California Highway Patrol said in a news release that Vargas Jr. was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in the crash reported just before 8 p.m. No injuries were reported in connection with the crash. The CHP will present the case to county prosecutors for consideration of charges.”
The case has not yet resulted in a confirmed conviction, and prosecutors will now decide whether formal charges should be brought.
A short video reportedly recorded before the crash also surfaced afterward, showing Vargas Jr. shirtless alongside an unidentified woman. The circumstances surrounding the collision itself remain unclear.

The arrest comes months after Vargas Jr. was involved in another incident that drew attention away from his boxing career.
Earlier in 2026, footage circulated showing him in an altercation with his younger brother Amado Vargas inside a Las Vegas hotel lobby. Reports at the time suggested personal issues may have been behind the confrontation.
Vargas Jr. has been a professional boxer since 2020 and gained greater attention after facing Callum Walsh on the undercard of the Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez event. He lost that light middleweight contest by unanimous decision.
He later switched to bare-knuckle boxing and returned in London on July 25, defeating Allen Gary Jhon by second-round knockout at BKB 57.
His father, Fernando Vargas, remains one of the better-known names of his generation after becoming a world champion during his own career.
Now, however, the Vargas family is attracting attention for events outside the ring, with the younger Vargas waiting to learn whether prosecutors will pursue charges following the Universal Studios crash.
