Bombshell in Turkey.Fenerbahce announced today the dismissal of Jose Mourinho as first team coach through a statement on its social networks
“We have parted ways with Jose Mourinho, who has been the coach of our professional football team since the 2024-2025 season. We thank him for his efforts for our team and wish him success in his career,” the statement said.
The news of the Portuguese coach’s departure comes almost 48 hours after his team failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage after being knocked out by Benfica last Wednesday. Mourinho thus leaves the team out of Europe’s top club competition and seventh in the Turkish Super League, with one win and one draw, and two days away from playing Genclerbirligi away on Sunday at 18:00.
This elimination has been a blow for the club and for the Portuguese coach, whose last time in the Champions League was on March 10, 2020. At that time, Mou was in charge of Tottenham, and since then almost 2,000 days have passed in which he has not found his way back to the competition he won twice and which has now triggered the end of his adventure in Turkey a year after arriving and still with another season left on his contract.
In addition, according to MARCA, Mourinho has received a million-dollar compensation of close to 15 million euros for the dismissal.
