The Indiana Fever may have walked away with a dominant 99-82 victory over the Atlanta Dream on July 11, but for many fans, Caitlin Clark’s attitude-not her stat line-was the biggest takeaway of the night.

Despite becoming the sixth-fastest player in WNBA history to reach 950 points, Clark found herself trending for all the wrong reasons after a viral video captured her yelling at teammate Aliyah Boston for passing to Natasha Howard instead of her. Moments later, Clark fumbled a drive and lost the ball-fueling a wave of backlash online.

“lol what happened to her??? She’s losing aura right before our eyes,” one fan wrote on X, while another slammed her demeanor: “Throwing a tantrum every time she doesn’t get the ball… Come on, Caitlin.”

It didn’t help that this was just her second game back from a groin injury-and that her rookie season has already been disrupted by a quadriceps strain. Even with averages of 16.9 points, 8.6 assists, and 4.9 rebounds, the narrative around the Fever’s star is starting to shift.

The league now belongs to Bueckers

Some are even questioning her place as the face of the league, especially in light of former UConn standout Paige Bueckers’ red-hot rookie campaign. Now leading the Dallas Wings with 18.1 points and rock-solid poise, fans are already crowning her the league’s next big thing.

“I’ve had enough. It’s Paige’s league now,” one fan posted.

The Fever will face Bueckers and the Wings on July 13, setting the stage for what feels like more than just a regular season matchup. For Clark, it could be a make-or-break moment to quiet the critics and reclaim her spark.
