ADesperate Housewives star, cinema’s most charismatic antihero, and a comedy producer have joined forces to tell a very Mexican story. The stage? Club Necaxa.
Eva Longoria, Ryan Reynolds, and Rob McElhenney have more than just Hollywood in common; they now share a passion for Mexican soccer. All three are investors in Club Necaxa and just released the trailer for a docuseries that promises to stir emotions much like their previous success with the UK’s Wrexham AFC.
The trailer, posted on the official Instagram accounts of Longoria and Reynolds, blends humor, identity, and heartfelt moments. From the very first scenes, it’s clear that their goal isn’t just to tell a football story it’s to connect with Mexican culture and show the world the emotional value this sport holds for the country.
From Wrexham to Aguascalientes: A New Chapter
It’s no surprise, as Eva Longoria states in the trailer, that “football is a language for Mexicans.” Throughout the video, we see Rob McElhenney making an effort to speak Spanish, while Longoria expresses her desire to showcase “the beauty of Mexican culture.” Even Reynolds, between jokes, seems to take the challenge quite seriously.
Social media reactions came quickly: “I can’t wait for Necaxa!”, “Way to put Mexican soccer on the map,” and “Thank you for elevating Mexico through the sport you’re so passionate about.” were just a few of the enthusiastic responses from fans.
The series will premiere on August 7 at 9 p.m. on Disney+. The first three weeks will feature two episodes per week, followed by weekly releases until the finale on September 19.
Longoria, who already made waves with her directorial debut Flamin’ Hot, is now aiming for another hit this time from the pitch. She, Reynolds, and McElhenney are betting not just on entertainment, but on reigniting the passion and identity of a historic club like Necaxa.
