Goodbyes are never easy and can leave us speechless. This was the case for Drake Maye and Stefon Diggs.

The 23-year-old quarterback shared a heartfelt post dedicated to the 32-year-old wide receiver who will no longer be part of the New England Patriots this year. Words were unnecessary; their bond said it all.

Maye reacts to Diggs’ departure from the Patriots

On Wednesday, March 4, it was announced that the WR would not continue to wear the Pats’ colors when the new NFL season begins. Having played only one season with the team, where he recorded 86 receptions, 1,013 yards, and 4 touchdowns, this decision ends what was expected to be a long-term partnership.

However, during their only campaign together, Diggs and Maye formed one of the most productive connections in the league, leading the team to Super Bowl LX, where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks 13-29 in the final.

For this reason and because of the bond they formed, the QB wanted to show his support and affection with a simple but powerful gesture.

On his official Instagram account, Drake shared a photo of the two of them in his stories, where they can be seen with a look and a smile that denotes their complicity. The quarterback left no words, just adding Diggs’ username and a heart emoji. However, words are unnecessary when a photograph says it all.

Meanwhile, Diggs’ departure is surprising, but there could be several reasons for it. The wide receiver came to Maye’s team from the Houston Texans on a three-year, $69 million contract. However, the decision to release him is largely due to the fact that retaining him would have cost the Patriots $26.5 million against the salary cap.

In addition, there was talk of a possible trade to the Denver Broncos, as the team wanted to sign him as a free agent in 2025, but negotiations fell through and he chose the Patriots as his new team.

His off-field problems probably didn’t help either. Even before the season started, a video of him on a boat, partying and holding a pink substance in his hand, went viral. Then, in December, Diggs was charged with assault after allegedly strangling his personal chef and will have to wait until April 1, 2026, for the investigation to continue after pleading not guilty. In addition, his relationship with rapper and mother of his youngest son, Cardi B, also attracted attention on multiple occasions and now that they have broken up, even more so.

Meanwhile, Stefon’s departure leaves a hole in the Pats’ offense, where making the right decisions in free agency and the NFL Draft will be key for a team trying to return to the Super Bowl after falling short against Seattle.
