The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to five games with a narrow 5-4 victory over Kansas City. The victory, however, was almost ruined by a costly error by outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, which unleashed the fury of fans on social media, who launched harsh comments against the player.

In the bottom of the second inning, with the score 3-1 in favor of the Dodgers, Hernandez misplayed a fly ball hit by Kyle Isbel. His error allowed the Royals to score a run, cutting the Dodgers’ lead to 3-2. The error proved even more costly when Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-run homer in the next at-bat, giving his team a 4-3 lead.

Hernandez’s unfortunate moment provoked a wave of criticism from fans. Despite his great season last year, some labelled him as “one of the most useless right fielders of all time”, expressing their frustration with his inconsistent performance, which has been attributed to injuries.

Criticism on social media

Despite the victory and the Dodgers’ great moment, Hernandez was the target of much criticism for his poor performance and the fans did not forgive him. His inconsistent season is taking its toll on him and for this reason, many people took to social media to leave cruel messages for the player.

Hernandez rejects the Home Run Derby

Teoscar Hernandez has made a personal decision about the Home Run Derby. The outfielder, who hit free agency after a great season with the Dodgers, has been inconsistent at the plate this year due to a groin injury. Citing this concern, he announced that he will not participate in next month’s event to protect his body and avoid risks.

Elly De La Cruz of the Cincinnati Reds also declined the invitation. For now, the only confirmed participants are Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Atlanta Braves and Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners.
