The Buffalo Bills’ tough loss to the Denver Broncos (33-30) still resonates with some fans of the team and the NFL in general.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy seems to be one of them, but he used the team’s tough loss to promote the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos.
Portnoy mocks Allen and the Bills
The Bills QB completed 25 of 39 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 66 rushing yards on 12 carries, but had four turnovers: two interceptions and two fumbles.
Despite his efforts to secure the victory, Denver ultimately advanced to the AFC Championship game. Allen lost his chance to play in a Super Bowl and win his first Vince Lombardi Trophy with the team for the seventh consecutive season.
However, it was precisely his absence from the Super Bowl that Portnoy highlighted in a post on X (formerly Twitter) when talking about the Patriots’ upcoming game:
“Let’s do it for Sean McDermott who never got to a Super Bowl. Let’s do it for Josh Allen who has never gotten to a Super Bowl. Let’s do it for all Dolphin fans who haven’t been to a Super Bowl in 42 years. Let’s do it for all Jets fans who haven’t been to a Super Bowl in 57 years,” wrote the 48-year-old businessman.
The truth is that, although it wasn’t the only team he mentioned, Josh and the now former Bills coach, Sean McDermott, were the only people Dave referred to.
“No, we are all good,” “lol I love how you’re trying to be the hero for all of these other teams, it’s hilarious,” “You actually make me hate the sport of football when you speak” were some of the responses Dave received.
For this reason, after the “rude” reaction from fans, Portnoy made a new statement saying that his message had been misinterpreted, quoting his previous tweet:
“Lotta rude comments on this tweet. I’m just trying to help out all the loser franchises in the AFC East who can’t get to the Super Bowl themselves. Trying to spread a little joy. Fine, I don’t give a f***ck. Let’s get to our 10th Super Bowl this century just for us. We’re all we’ve got. We’re all we need,” Dave wrote.
Meanwhile, the Patriots have been led by 23-year-old quarterback Drake Maye. The young QB racked up 4,394 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns during the 2025-26 NFL regular season.
In the AFC Wild Card game against the Chargers, he had 268 passing yards and 66 rushing yards, and in the AFC divisional round against the Texans, he threw for 179 yards and 3 touchdowns with one interception.
Now, Maye has a golden opportunity to bring the franchise a new Super Bowl, something that hasn’t happened since Tom Brady was the quarterback in the 2018 season, when the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Super Bowl LII on February 3, 2019.
New England will face the Broncos in the AFC Championship on January 25 at 3 p.m. EST.
