The husband of NFL reporter Dianna Russini isn’t going into hiding, even as a growing scandal continues to shake their inner circle.

The collapse of an elite career

Dianna Russini, the former NFL insider for The Athletic, resigned earlier this month after photos surfaced showing her at an exclusive, adults-only Arizona resort alongside New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. While Russini initially defended the images-claiming she and Vrabel were part of a larger group of friends-the pressure intensified as Page Six and TMZ Sports released a steady stream of additional photos, eventually leading to her departure.

Mike Vrabel, meanwhile, chose to address the fallout head-on with a public apology.

“I’ve had some difficult conversations with people that I care about, with my family, the organization, the coaches, the players. Those have been positive and productive,” the New England Patriots coach told reporters this week.

“We believe that in order to be successful on and off the field you have to make good decisions. That includes me, that starts with me. We never want our actions to negatively affect the team. We never want to be the cause of a distraction.”

In stark contrast to Vrabel’s public stance, Russini has effectively “gone dark.” She deleted her X (formerly Twitter) account, wiping out a massive social media following and stepping away from the spotlight.

“Over a career spanning more than fifteen years in sports journalism – at NBC, ESPN, and The Athletic – I have built a body of work I am proud of. I have broken stories, earned the trust of sources across the league, and been guided by the highest standards of professional conduct. That record speaks for itself,” she said in a statement.

“I remain grateful to The Athletic and for the extraordinary colleagues with whom I have worked there, for the platform it provided, and for the support you showed me during this difficult time. I wish you nothing but continued success.”

While Russini has stepped away, her husband has taken the opposite approach. Kevin Goldschmidt, a Shake Shack executive, has maintained his public presence. Unlike many in his position who might deactivate their accounts, Goldschmidt’s profiles-including his LinkedIn-remain active.

The couple has been together for over six years, marrying in September 2020, and they share two sons. In light of the ongoing NFL controversy, past comments from Russini have resurfaced under a new lens. During a 2023 interview, she joked about her husband, quipping, “He had a really big wallet.”

As the media spotlight remains fixed on the Arizona resort controversy, Goldschmidt appears focused on his professional life, choosing a path of quiet resilience without disappearing from the public eye.
