David Benavidez has not taken his finger off the pulse and has in mind to get the fight against Canelo Alvarez to challenge the current 168-pound monarch.

After his victory over David Morrell just over a week ago, the Mexican Monster asked the WBC and WBO super middleweight champion to accept his fight “for the good of the sport.”

Turki Al-Sheikh signs two-year contract with Saul Alvarez

On Thursday, the agreement between Saul Alvarez and Sheikh Turki Al-Sheikh and Riyadh Season of Saudi Arabia was announced for two years and four fights, three of them in the Arab country.

On Friday, Canelo’s pre-agreement with Jake Paul to fight in Las Vegas on May 3 fell through and a day later it was confirmed that the opponent will be William Scull (23-0) on the same date, but in Saudi Arabia.

In that fight, Alvarez will look to regain the IBF belt, which he was stripped of in September for not facing Scull when he opted for Edgar Berlanga, and to become undisputed champion again.

Turki Alalshikh: “I hope to convince Canelo Alvarez to fight Benavidez”

After his fight in May, in which he is expected to defeat Cuban Scull, his next fight would be in Las Vegas on September 13 and it is assumed that the opponent is Terence Crawford (41-0).

But for 2026, there is not much clarity yet, although there are several names such as Dmitry Bivol, in a possible rematch after Canelo Alvarez’s (62-2-2) defeat in 2022, and Chris Eubank Jr. (34-3).

This is where the possibility of David Benavidez (30-0) could come in, who would now have an ally in the Arab sheikh, president of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia.

I hope, I hope that one day I can convince Canelo to fight Benavidez.

“Crawford is a different fighter. Benavidez is a great boxer, of course, but with Crawford you’re talking about 41 fights and a champion in three weight divisions. It’s different, now he’s going up more than two categories to fight Canelo,” Alalshikh told ESPN’sMike Coppinger.
