Much of the success that the Los Angeles Dodgers can achieve this season hinges on the health of their players. The truth is, this hasn’t been the case this season, as several of their top players have already faced injury issues that are hurting Dave Roberts‘ team in what is shaping up to be a true battle for the National League West division.

Players like Hyeseong Kim and Kiké Hernández are sidelined, and recently, one of the team’s most productive players in the lineup has joined that list.

An unfortunate update on Tommy Edman

The Dodgers have lost Tommy Edman again due to an ankle injury. This is the second time in a week that the player has suffered from this issue in the same area. After getting injured against the Boston Red Sox, he experienced pain again while running to first base. The team, led by Dave Roberts, pulled him from the game, and it was later confirmed to be a right ankle sprain.

In light of this situation, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on his player’s physical condition:

“It’s a recurrence of what he’s been dealing with,” Roberts said. “I think once he hit the bag…I just don’t see how it’s not an IL [Injured List]. We’re obviously gonna get Muncy back, so that’ll probably be the move.”

The player himself also spoke about how frustrating it has been to deal with this injury. “It felt a little bit worse than what I felt in Boston last week, just stepped on the base weird,” Edman said. “I think it’s too early to tell, we’ll figure that out once we look at the images. It’s a bummer, I’m trying to play the game hard but it’s tough to do that when I feel like I don’t have the stability there that I need. I’ve been doing rehab stuff every single day, treatment stuff after the game. I don’t know what else I could do.”

Currently, the Los Angeles Dodgers hold a slim three-game lead over the San Diego Padres, who currently occupy one of the Wild Card spots for the postseason. This lead under Dave Roberts is far from secure, and even a bad streak could knock them out of first place in the National League West. If things worsen, they could even lose the privileged position that grants them a ticket to the MLB postseason.
