The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t wasting any time addressing a major offseason priority-finding more juice for their defense.
With the No. 32 pick in this month’s NFL Draft, the Eagles have been actively meeting with prospects who could help turn around a unit that struggled to finish drives and pressure quarterbacks down the stretch in 2024. One of the more intriguing names on their radar: Texas A&M edge rusher Shemar Turner.
Turner recently met with the Eagles, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, following a positive re-check at the Combine. The meeting comes amid a flurry of interest from other teams, including the Cowboys, Cardinals, Colts, and Dolphins-clearly, his stock is trending in the right direction.
A disruptor on the rise
Turner played four seasons at Texas A&M and finished with 10 sacks, but it’s his junior year that stands out-six sacks and a constant presence in opponents’ backfields. He’s athletic, long, and explosive off the snap, exactly the type of high-upside player Philly could target at the end of Round 1.
What makes Turner’s rise more compelling is that he’s doing it after suffering a setback around the Senior Bowl. With a clean bill of health and a string of top-tier visits, teams are clearly buying in.
And if the Eagles want to get back to the defensive identity that carried them to a Super Bowl run just two seasons ago, adding another edge weapon like Turner could be the first step.
Still, there’s some buzz around the possibility of GM Howie Roseman trading either up or down. The Eagles have made a habit of moving around the board on draft night, and if a top-tier lineman slips or if they see depth they like later, they could pull the trigger.
Whether it’s at 32 or somewhere else, Turner feels like the kind of pick that could pay off big-if he’s still on the board when it’s Philly’s turn.
