Comedian Conan O’Brien is no stranger to daring antics on television, but his latest challenge takes his boldness to an entirely new arena: the fiery, rowdy world of the Buffalo Bills Mafia.
In a recent episode of the New Heights podcast, hosted by NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce, the former late-night host agreed to take part in one of the most extreme traditions in professional sports fandom – jumping through a flaming table.
The proposal came from Jason Kelce, a retired NFL center and honorary Bills Mafia member, who invited O’Brien to experience the full energy of a Bills home game at the team’s new stadium set to open in 2026.
The comedian’s participation would be medically facilitated: he would receive a Toradol injection, a common pain-masking medication used by NFL players to compete through injuries, before attempting the stunt.
“I’ll meet you anywhere, anytime,” O’Brien declared on the podcast, emphasizing that this was not a publicity gimmick. “I want a professional doctor to inject me with Toradol and then I will jump through something. I promise you. This is not a bit. I think that would be so much fun.”
He also joked about the potential risks, noting that the event would be filmed regardless of whether he needed a hospital visit afterward: “It’s gonna be video. It’s gonna go viral, and then you guys can come visit me in the hospital.”
Wild fan initiation
Bills Mafia has become legendary for its intense tailgate culture and daring fan rituals, chief among them the ritual of leaping through burning tables before games. This tradition, which began years ago as a spontaneous celebration among die-hard fans, has grown into a defining feature of Buffalo fandom.
While Jason Kelce himself has performed similar stunts following bets or celebrations, Conan’s willingness to participate signals both his adventurous nature and the magnetic appeal of the Mafia community.
Though O’Brien is not an official Bills supporter, the allure of the team’s raucous pregame culture proved irresistible. Adding to the excitement, Travis Kelce, who will play against the Bills with the Kansas City Chiefs next season, expressed interest in participating in the pregame festivities, even if only in a ceremonial role.
For the comedian, the stunt would be a once-in-a-lifetime fan experience, blending humor and the infectious enthusiasm of one of the NFL’s rowdiest fan bases.
With the Buffalo Bills preparing to move into their state-of-the-art stadium in 2026, Conan O’Brien’s impending leap could coincide with a historic moment for the franchise.
