Roy Keane, Manchester United legend, is clear about the coaches who should sit on the bench at Old Trafford instead of Michael Carrick: Luis Enrique or Diego Pablo Simeone.

The 54-year-old former Irish footballer is betting on Carrick not continuing as Manchester United manager next season: “He’s done a very good job in terms of results, but no, I wouldn’t sign him beyond the summer. I think there are better options.”
“I take my hat off to him, but the victories have been without any risk and he has had weeks off to prepare. If three months ago Carrick had been mentioned as the next United manager, we would have been locked up in the psychiatric hospital. We would have said that he was not even a candidate to be considered. He has done a very good job, but I think there are better options, it’s that simple. United must get on with interviewing candidates,” he said of the man who in January 2026 was the replacement for Ruben Amorim.

For Roy Keane, the two candidates to coach Manchester United next season should be Argentine Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid) and Spaniard Luis Enrique (PSG).

Roy Keane also believes that Thomas Tuchel could be a good candidate to manage Manchester United, but his contract with the Germany national team until 2028 would rule them out as a viable option for the Red Devils.
