Cardi B has once again made headlines – but this time, not for a song or a show, but for a deeply personal tribute to her newborn son with NFL star Stefon Diggs.
In November 2025, just days after welcoming their baby boy, the rapper decided to preserve a piece of their connection in the most extraordinary way: she turned a portion of her umbilical cord into a gold-dipped keepsake.
The 33-year-old artist worked with Mommy Made Encapsulation, a company specializing in placenta services, to transform the dehydrated umbilical cord into a heart-shaped pendant.
According to the company, the process involves carefully shaping the cord around a metal framework, drying it, and then coating it with gold chrome – creating a delicate, lasting memento of the first physical link between mother and child.
In a video shared by the encapsulation specialist, one can see the entire process step by step: from cleaning and dyeing the cord to molding it into a heart, trimming the excess, flattening it, and finally dipping it in gold.
Corona, the creator, captioned the post poignantly: “Where her journey started … turned into a keepsake she’ll treasure forever.”
A deeply symbolic keepsake
This isn’t just any piece of jewelry. For Cardi, the heart-shaped pendant carries powerful sentiment – it represents the lifeline that once nourished and protected her baby throughout pregnancy.
The gesture has resonated with many, even if others find the idea unconventional or even strange.
Notably, this isn’t Cardi‘s first time working with Mommy Made Encapsulation. She has previously preserved parts of her placenta – in earlier pregnancies she opted for encapsulation and even prints.
Beyond the cord pendant, she also commissioned a “placenta print” and turned other parts of the placenta into capsules to support her postpartum recovery.
While some critics have reacted with discomfort, many applauded the heartfelt symbolism. For Cardi B, this gold-plated keepsake isn’t a mere accessory – it’s a celebration of motherhood, a tangible reminder of the invisible bond she now shares with her son – and a truly unique memento of her journey.
