One of the biggest weekends in boxing history is nearing. Featuring three different cards back-to-back-to-back, including superstars like Canelo Alvarez, Naoya Inoue, Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez, it’s all set to be a spectacle. As with any card that involves “The Face of Boxing“, Canelo will be the main talking point.
That’s especially true this time around, as it will be the first time Alvarez fights in Saudi Arabia. Riyadh has become a hub for big boxing fights, and Canelo is set to jump on the bandwagon this weekend. Canelo has been there for a couple of weeks, and he’s already gotten acclimated to his new environment. In fact, he feels so at home that he’s brought a surprising family member.
Ring Magazine shared a photo of Canelo with his father for a media snapshot during fight week.
Who is Canelo Alvarez’s father, Santos Alvarez?
For whatever reason, not much is known about Canelo’s father, other than his name being Santos Alvarez. Santos and Canelo’s mother, Ana Maria, had Canelo in the summer of 1990. They divorced in 2005, and his father seemingly fell by the wayside.
Santos being there in Riyadh with Canelo is definitely a sign that their relationship is still strong. We know more of Alvarez’s other family members, and of course his children. It’s possible that Canelo sees his father frequently behind the scenes, but for many fans, this is the first time seeing him at all.
With Canelo entering the twilight of his career, we very well may see more moments like these. Alvarez wants everyone he loves to be a part of this final journey.
