Paige Bueckers is a winner and a fierce competitor, and her achievements at the collegiate level are translating into wins at her young career in the WNBA.
The sensational rookie guard, who was picked No. 1 overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2025 WNBA Draft, was named the league’s Rookie of the Month for June
Over seven games in the past month, the former UConn Huskies standout averaged 21.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.7 steals, 0.9 blocks, .475 shooting from the field and .929 from the free-throw line. Bueckers‘ scoring average ranked third among all players and first among guards, while her steals clip ranked ninth.
Caitlin Clark is no longer the best WNBA player
Paige Bueckers’ sensational June has some WNBA fans and analysts thinking that the best young player in the league, taking over the reign that was pretty much all of Indiana Fever‘s sophomore Caitlin Clark, who has missed four straight games as she works back from a left groin injury that has sidelined the superstar since the end of the Fever’s June 24th game.
Now, let’s not get it twisted. The former Iowa Hawkeyes standout dominated the All-Star fan vote, which means that she will be a starter and team captain when the big game tips off in Indianapolis on July 19th. Clark finished first among guards in the fan voting, third in the media vote, but ninth at the position on the players’ ballot.
And Caitlin has put out the numbers to back it up. She’s averaging 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game so far in 2025. She missed seven of the Fever’s first 16 games due to injury, and her scoring and 3-point shooting (29.5%) are both down from last year. But nevertheless, she’s a big part of her team and of the league as a whole.
Paige’s case for being better than Clark
However, Paige Bueckers has made a name for herself so far in the WNBA. . She was the only player to average at least 20 points and five assists in June. Among rookies, her scoring and assist averages listed first while her steals ranked second.
The 6’0 guard scored a career-high 35 points against the Phoenix Mercury on June 11, which was the second-highest point total by any player in June, and the lone 30-point showing by any rookie in the league this year. Needless to say, Bueckers is making a big splash.
It’s no surprise, then, that Paige wrapped up the month of June by becoming the lone rookie named a 2025 WNBA All-Star Game starter. Bueckers had the highest weighted score for all guards when combining Fan, Media and Player rankings.
