Bill Belichick, six-time Super Bowl champion, arrived at North Carolina Tar Heels in December last year with the hope that his guidance and experience in the NFL would take the college team to the top.

However, his five-year, $50 million contract surprised fans as his recession clause would be significantly reduced on June 1, 2025. From $10 million, Belichick’s departure would be $9 million cheaper, as it is reduced to $1 million from the aforementioned date. In other words, if Bill had decided to leave of his own accord before June, he would have had to pay the team $10 million.

When this detail was revealed, there were those who doubted Bill’s long-term future with the team, thinking it was a sure exit in the event of a tempting offer from the NFL.

However, things are very different now compared to December, and one of the aspects that changed was the relevance of the 73-year-old coach and his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.

Hudson plays a key role

The 24-year-old has been the talk of the town in recent months, involving her boyfriend in controversies such as the interview for “CBS Sunday Morning” when she interrupted the conversation to prevent Belichick from talking about their romance and telling how they met, saying off camera, “We’re not going to talk about this.”

Another case that gained prominence was when Hudson was apparently ejected from the Tar Heels’ venue, although, after the incident, the North Carolina team issued a statement letting Bill’s publicist know that she is welcome.

Now, with these scandals, doubts about an NFL team hiring him are growing even more. And although the date has passed, Belichick’s future and his plans for the coming months remain unknown, as Bill’s contract with UNC extends until 2029.
