Angel Reese did not finish her second season in the WNBA and with the Chicago Sky the way she had hoped. Failing to qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive year and with a record of 10-34, the 23-year-old forward did not hide her frustration even while still playing regular season games.
In early September, the former LSU star gave an interview to the Chicago Tribune in which she harshly criticized the management, coaching staff, and her teammates. This controversy has cast doubt on her future with the Sky, and speculation grew even more after her latest post.
Is Angel going to Dallas?
“We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me… If things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.” These words earned the two-time All-Star Game player a half-suspension, as they were considered negative to the team.
Although she apologized for this, some fans and experts believe that Reese and Sky could go their separate ways. The truth is that there is no official confirmation that Reese is changing teams, but his recent post on X (formerly Twitter) left everyone thinking about this possibility.
“#ARWINGS,” Angel simply wrote, and instantly fans began to speculate about the meaning of this post.
While some linked it to the fact that she will be the first professional athlete to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, others began to dream about the idea of Reese and Paige Bueckers playing together in Dallas:
“AR to DALLAS?!!!! WONT HE DO IT. I won’t accept that this isn’t a trade announcement. Let me be delulu, PLEASE,” wrote one of them. “You wanna sign with the Dallas Wings? What?” commented another surprised follower. “I’m praying for a double meaning there and a prophetic one! AR5 and PB5… Jesus take the wheel!” said another.
The truth is that Paige and Angel did not face each other during their college careers because they belonged to different conferences, but both were the most outstanding players on their teams and proved to get along perfectly during this year’s WNBA All-Star Game. “It’s good to finally be able to play together instead of playing against each other,” Reese said at the time.
With relations tense with Sky, Angel could force her way out and join another team, although she has two years left on her four-year, $324,483 contract with Chicago. Furthermore, if she joins Dallas, she would be joining “the best hooper in North Texas,” according to Bradford William Davis of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, high praise considering that Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and Cooper Flagg play for the Dallas Mavericks. Will we see AR5 and PB5 playing together in 2026? Only time will tell.
