Victory finally returned to the Chicago Sky. After suffering two consecutive losses, Angel Reese’s team found the strength they had been missing and secured a much-needed triumph on Wednesday, July 9. Their opponent, the Dallas Wings, fell 87-76 at Wintrust Arena, with Paige Bueckers unable to make much of an impact for her team.

Special mention goes to forward Rebecca Allen, who had a magical, standout performance. Allen scored 27 points, her best mark of the season so far. She shot 9-for-13 from the field, grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists, and hit five three-pointers in just 27 minutes coming off the bench.

Wednesday night’s performance was Allen’s finest in the past ten years and left her just one point shy of breaking her personal best in the league.

Team support behind the numbers

As is well known, teamwork is vital in basketball, and Allen was quick to credit her teammates for their support on the court, in addition to her strong offensive showing that allowed her to reach those impressive numbers.

After the final buzzer, celebrations erupted in the arena. The Sky had snapped a two-game losing streak, they had played well, and the atmosphere was perfectly in sync.

This wave of emotion led Angel Reese and the rest of the team to show their affection for Allen. Led by Reese, the players lifted Allen and carried her across the court, a gesture of high praise for her outstanding performance.

What Allen said about the celebration

During the postgame press conference, Allen was asked how she felt about the impromptu celebration her teammates staged. She admitted it caught her off guard and that she even felt “embarrassed.” “Oh wild, I was so embarrassed,” Allen said. “… Yeah, I really like Angel. Picking me up, she knows I’d be embarrassed with that too, so that’s why she did it. I mean, that was a lot of fun. Did not expect it at all.

But, I mean, it also speaks to the chemistry that we have within this team.

It was all part of the emotional high that came after a much-needed win, and Allen took it in stride, admitting she blushed from the moment but still enjoyed it.

Looking ahead to their next game this Saturday, July 12, against the top team in the WNBA, the Minnesota Lynx, the Sky hope Rebecca Allen can maintain the same level she showed in her most recent outing-one marked by joy, dominance, and sheer happiness.
