Angel Reese has no hang ups about Aneesah Morrow heading to the Connecticut Sun after being picked seventh overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, celebrating the LSU Tigers star’s graduation.

The 22-year-old from Illinois could have had a dream reunion with her home city if she fell far enough down in the draft order, but with averages of 20.5 points, 12.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists, there was little chance of that happening.

So, she will head to the Mohegan Sun Arena to begin life as a professional basketballer, missing out on a chance for a sensational link up with the Chi Barbie; who became a national champion with the Tigers in 2022/23.

Reese, who knows Morrow personally from when they competed together in the 2023/24 campaign and reached the Elite Eight stages of the NCAA playoffs, was full of joy.

“So proud of you! so deserving,” Reese posted to Instagram Stories, celebrating Aneesah’s selection as the seventh overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft after her stellar year.

Reese and Morrow will reunited on court on June 15, when the Sky take on the Sun at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

How important could Aneesah Morrow be?

Rookies in the WNBA are rarely expected to hit the ground running as they adjust to life in a new city, against experienced professionals and far older and stronger players. For example, even Caitlin Clark needed a bit of time to adapt.

But according to ESPN’s Charlie Creme, this might not be the case for the Sun; who could look to Morrow to begin putting up the big numbers from the get-go.

“With the free agent losses of Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner, the Sun needed to find some rebounding,” Creme wrote for ESPN. “That makes Morrow a good addition.

“Her nose for the ball is unparalleled in this draft. She also has shooting range and can create her own shot.”
