Aaron Judge is considered a figurehead for both Yankees fans and the rest of Major League Baseball followers, however, to be considered a legend he still has a couple of things to accomplish, at least that is the opinion of former Yankees player Alex Rodriguez.A-Rod was clear when talking about Aaron Judge’s legacy, stating that in order to establish himself as a true legend of the New York team, he needs to win a World Series.
During his participation in the Evan and Tiki Show on WFAN, Rodriguez was asked who will take the throne in the city, Judge or Brunson, a difficult question to answer, as both athletes play in different disciplines, but for Rodriguez the answer is simple: “Whoever wins the championship first”.
Who is better Aaron Judge or Jalen Brunson?
The comparison between Judge, the Yankees star, and Jalen Brunson, the Knicks star, often comes up among fans in the city. But for Rodriguez, who knows the demands of sports in New York, the key is the number of titles they manage to win. This point of view is considered by many to be reductionist in assessing the performance of an athlete, especially in team sports.
Judge is an incredible player. He just needs a good postseason, and that will change everything
Rodriguez recalled his own challenges in October wearing the Yankees uniform. After years of criticism, he excelled in the 2009 playoffs, when he was instrumental in the team’s last championship. For him, ignoring the pressure from the media and fans in New York is not realistic:
“As an athlete, you usually say, ‘I don’t pay attention to that,’ but the truth is that you do. It’s impossible not to hear it, it’s everywhere: on the front page, on the back page,” said Rodriguez.
Aaron Judge stats
Judge, who in his postseason career is batting .202 in 58 games, with 16 home runs and 86 strikeouts, has had standout moments, such as his home run against Shane Bieber in 2020 or his performance in the 2017 ALDS. However, he has yet to put together a consistent performance to mark his postseason legacy.
However, for Rodriguez, there is still plenty of time and all he needs is a good run, so it seems likely that ‘The Judge’ will live up to the expectations of the former Yankees player and establish himself as one of the greatest sporting legends in New York
