Lionel Messi is preparing for his last World Cup and continues to collect personalities who admire him after an impressive career. Many consider him the best player in the history of football. And one of those who love him the most is actor Damson Idris

The Hollywood star recently confessed that his life could have been very different if the Inter Miami forward had not frustrated his childhood dream. Of course, Messi never had that intention and, perhaps, the future could have brought them together in some team if he had dedicated himself to sport and not acting. Who knows?

“The truth is that I wanted to be a footballer. I played until I was 18, and then I remember watching Lionel Messi play. He was about 23 years old. And I thought, ‘I’m never going to be as good as this guy’. So Lionel Messi is the reason for my retirement from football,” he recalled

And he warns that he hopes to meet Messi one day to tell him his story: “When I see him one day, hopefully he will bless me by meeting him, I’m going to tell him that he is the reason why I left football, because he was so good.”

From football to Formula 1

Damson Idris was born in the United Kingdom to Nigerian parents, so soccer played a very important role in his life. His latest sports film has nothing to do with that sport but with Formula 1. He starred alongside Brad Pitt in F1: The Movie

However, Idris will soon be reminiscing about his old days as a footballer. On May 31, he will take part in the Soccer Aid charity match at London’s Olympic Stadium.
