Everyone remembers some cases of players who injure themselves before the seasons begin or in their first evolutions on the field, and many have fresh images of New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers breaking his Achilles tendon in the opening minutes of the 2023-24 NFL season
Well, Scott Effross is not Aaron Rodgers, but the New York Yankees seem to have the same bad luck as their city neighbors and are in a downward spiral that bodes ill for the new season, as negative news keeps coming to the Bronx Bombers.
Stanton is the latest ‘injury’
After the blow to the neck of the Yankees that represented the bad news of the injury to slugger Giancarlo Stanton in spring camp, they now have to deal with a new injury, that of pitcher Scott Effross, who injured his hamstring after making just one pitch! in last Tuesday’s exhibition game against the Minnesota Twins.
Everything looks dark and cloudy on the Yankees’ horizon heading into the new season. Their rotation depth is limited, their bats are off, and their few additions to the infield do not guarantee that the road to October will be a good one.
Effross replacement

Scott Effross’ recent injury comes as no surprise, as he had already missed the entire 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. In 2024 he made only three appearances, and now this. It will be at least two months for the pitcher, who joins the list of ‘fallen soldiers’ in the organization: Giancarlo Stanton (tendinitis in both elbows), veteran DJ LeMahieu with right hip impingement, Jonathan Loaisiga (right flexor strain) and JT Brubaker (oblique strain)
