The New York Yankees weren’t ready to go quietly. Down 6-1 early and staring at elimination, New York stormed back to stun the Toronto Blue Jays 9-6 in Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Tuesday night.
Toronto came out swinging, building a five-run cushion by the third inning behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s homer and a handful of defensive lapses from the Yankees. Cody Bellinger’s missed catch in left and Trent Grisham’s ill-timed throw to second helped Toronto cash in four runs in the inning, leaving the Yankee Stadium crowd restless.
But the energy shifted fast.
The Moment Everything Changed
In the fourth, Aaron Judge stepped up with two on and crushed a three-run shot that scraped the left-field foul pole, a blast that felt like a thunderclap across the Bronx. Suddenly, a 6-1 nightmare became a 6-6 ballgame.
From there, the Yankees never looked back. Jazz Chisholm Jr. added a go-ahead homer the next inning, and New York’s bullpen, once a question mark, slammed the door shut. Tim Hill picked up the win, while David Bednar recorded the save with five clutch outs.
Toronto’s defense, steady all year, fell apart when it mattered most. Anthony Santander’s missed liner in the sixth allowed Cody Bellinger to double, setting up Ben Rice’s sac fly to make it 9-6, the final score.
The Yankees’ clubhouse afterward was loose, defiant, and loud. They’re still down 2-1 in the series, but the mood has shifted. Game 4 returns to Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night, where momentum – and belief – suddenly belong to New York.
