The Kansas City Chiefs have become a force in the NFL Draft in recent years, replenishing their Super Bowl-winning core with exciting young players who — crucially — enter the NFL on cheap “rookie scale” contracts. One such player, wide receiver Xavier Worthy, impressed during his debut season in 2024, which he capped with a 157-yard, two-touchdown performance in the ChiefsSuper Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

But Worthy has been beset by personal issues in the early weeks of the NFL offseason. He is suing ex-fiancee Tia Jones after Jones accused him of domestic assault, a charge he maintains has been fabricated. The case has taken several sharp turns already and could put additional strain on Worthy in an unexpected place.

Is Worthy spending more than he is making?

If Worthy continues along the trajectory that began in his rookie season, he will be due a lucrative contract extension within 24 months. But the former Texas Longhorn isn’t there yet — and in addition to his domestic abuse controversy, fans are beginning to register concern over Worthy’s financial picture, well before he is due to enter contract talks with the Chiefs.

A recent social media post revealed that Worthy’s $500,000 Rolls Royce car is worth more than half of his rookie salary after taxes, prompting some concern that the 21-year-old is already living beyond his means.

However, a few intrepid users pointed out that Worthy has several endorsement deals already in effect; he is already worth millions of dollars, putting him in position to “easily” afford a luxury vehicle like a Rolls. And if the checking account runs a little low, Worthy knows that his chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes — who asked the Chiefs to draft the Texas speedster in 2024 — could yet make him one of the NFL’s best-paid receivers in the years to come.
