The Los Angeles Dodgers went into the 2025 World Series with high expectations after having swept through the Wild Card Series with just one loss in 10 games. That dominance was due to the great form of their starting pitchers: Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani, who not only showed quality pitching, but also provided long outings of more than five innings.
However, everything changed for the start of the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. It seemed that the week they were without playing affected them because for Game 1 Blake Snell looked hesitant, Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched a complete game and won, but at times he could not find the strike zone, Tyler Glasnow was the pitcher with the fewest innings pitched with just 4.2 in a game that went 18 innings
Finally, Shohei Ohtani, who was making his World Series debut as a pitcher, did not have his best performance, losing the game that forced the return to Toronto with a six-inning performance and a seventh that he started, but was quickly relieved because he was punished with two singles that ultimately ended up being runs.
Blake Snell loses his second game of the 2025 World Series and puts the Dodgers in jeopardy
Blake Snell had the chance to get revenge for what happened in Game 1 of the World Series, but the Blue Jays’ offense immediately punished him. The American pitcher made his first pitch to the plate and Davis Schneider put it on the other side of the fence, but it didn’t end there. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., second in the order, hit another back-to-back home run to increase the lead to 2-0, the first time in history that this has happened in a Fall Classic.
Despite the poor start, Snell only allowed one more run, finishing his work with 112 pitches, two home runs allowed, four walks, seven strikeouts and six hits, being the losing pitcher in the game, his second loss of the series in which he has not shown the dominance of the previous rounds.
Dodgers pitchers make negative history with three wild pitches in Game 5 of the 2025 World Series
In the top of the seventh inning, things got worse for the Dodgers, who were trailing 3-1, making history, but not the kind that a franchise likes, but rather the kind that puts them in jeopardy for the next few games. According to ESPN, they became the first team to have three wild pitches in a single World Series inning.
It all started with Addison Barger on first base, Snell had a wild pitch that allowed him to get to second base, then the lefty walked Andres Gimenez, but not only that, the pitch hit the ground and got away from the catcher, allowing Barger to reach third
It was then that Dave Roberts decided to take Snell out and bring in Edgardo Henriquez from the bullpen, who also walked Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with another wild pitch that went to the backstop and allowed Addison Barger to reach home and increase the Blue Jays’ lead.
The Dodgers are one loss away from losing the series and ending their dream of doing what the Yankees did 25 years ago, winning two Fall Classics in a row. They now travel to Toronto for Game 6 at Rogers Centre, which is scheduled for Friday, October 31 at 8:00 pm (ET).
