Last year, the Indiana Fever hit the jackpot in the 2024 WNBA Draft by selecting Caitlin Clark. This year, the Dallas Wings hold the first pick, and the overwhelming consensus is that they’ll choose this year’s top prospect, Paige Bueckers. But what about the rest of the draft order? Below, we break down each possibility.

In many ways, this year’s WNBA Draft is far more unpredictable than last year’s. In 2024, Clark was the clear first pick, with talents like Cameron Brink, Kamilla Cardoso, and Angel Reese vying for the subsequent spots.

In 2025, Bueckers is the undisputed top contender, and it would be shocking if the Wings passed on her. However, her UConn teammate Azzi Fudd, LSU’s Flau’Jae Johnson, and TCU’s Olivia Miles have opted out of the 2025 draft to continue their college careers, somewhat murking the waters.

The unpredictable landscape of the 2025 WNBA Draft

Analysts had projected Miles as the likely second pick behind Bueckers, while Fudd and Johnson were expected to go in the top five. Their absence opens the door for players like Dominique Malonga, Kiki Iriafen, and Aneesah Morrow to claim top spots in the draft.

As for the teams, the Washington Mystics have significant draft capital, with three first-round picks they can use or trade as they see fit. Behind them, the Dallas Wings and Connecticut Sun each hold two first-round picks.

This leaves a first round featuring just eight teams, including the Golden State Valkyries, who are participating in their first draft following the league’s most recent expansion. Meanwhile, New York, Phoenix, Indiana, Atlanta, and Las Vegas will have to wait until the second round to make their first selections in 2025.
