If you thought nothing could surprise you anymore, a home run ball, little boy, and viral fight against a Karen are what have angered baseball fans nationwide.
Devoted father Drew Feltwell was at the center of an online outrage after having a heated confrontation with a Phillies fan who could not keep his demanded his son’s cherished baseball during a game at LoanDepot Park.
The incident goes viral
Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Harrison Bader registered a solo home run for the Philadelphia Phillies versus the Miami Marlins on September 5, 2025. The ball sailed into the stands in front of Lincoln and his father, Drew Feltwell. Drew picked up the ball and gave it to Lincoln as an early birthday present.
Just seconds later, the woman, who was later nicknamed “Phillies Karen” on Facebook and X, approached the father and son. The ball had fallen close to her seat, she claimed, and with aggressive insistence, demanded it to be returned. Understandably on edge, Drew Feltwell made the hard decision to return the ball to the woman, putting the safety and emotional and physical welfare of his son first before the baseball.
Why did he give the ball to her?
Speaking to an NBC10 Philadelphia interview, Feltwell said:
“I pretty much just wanted her to go away. She was so adamant and loud.”
He said the gesture was a practice in instructing Lincoln on how to deal with conflicts and remain calm in high-pressure situations, as opposed to giving in to an unreasonable request
Lincoln then confessed to having felt angry but understood his father’s logic:
“I wasn’t very happy that we had to give it to her, but we can’t win,” he said.
Public reaction and support
The accident instantly went viral, as people saw themselves in a gigantic outrage throughout the internet after what they witnessed. ESPN “SportsCenter” anchors Nicole Briscoe and Michael Eaves criticized the woman for striking at a child, throwing away the great value of sportsmanship.
As a gesture of good will, the Marlins organization subsequently visited Lincoln and his sister, giving them a gift package of baseballs. Harrison Bader met personally with Lincoln, handing over a signed bat and taking photos with the family to mark the occasion.
This horrible episode, which began over an altercation, ultimately proved to demonstrate virtues of empathy, patience, and perspective. Drew Feltwell’s act of prioritizing his son’s safety and emotional health over an object was one that resonated deeply with spectators and also one that reminded them that the true essence of baseball and parenting often exists outside the game itself.
What happened to the ‘Phillies Karen‘?
The identity of the woman remains unconfirmed, therefore no official consequences have been reported yet. There was some circulation of names like Cheryl Richardson Wagner and Leslie-Ann Kravitz. However, none of them have been verified yet as they are just social media claims.
Despite widespread online outrage and speculation about her identity, no confirmed actions have been taken against the individual. Internet is currently doing its thing, but as of today, her name and profile has not been verified or confirmed. It is just a matter of time that social media finishes the work, as it did with that couple in a similar situation during tennis game not long ago.
