Caitlin Clark, the WNBA‘s rising star and face of the Indiana Fever, is not navigating the highs and lows of professional basketball alone. Alongside her is boyfriend Connor McCaffery, whose presence has been a quiet yet steady pillar of support throughout her journey from college sensation to WNBA phenom.
The two met at the University of Iowa and have grown together both personally and professionally, building a relationship grounded in mutual understanding, athletic grit, and shared dreams.
Clark rose to national prominence as a dynamic scorer and playmaker for the Iowa Hawkeyes, shattering records and becoming the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I history.
McCaffery, meanwhile, played both basketball and baseball for Iowa and later transitioned into coaching. Their paths naturally crossed in Iowa City, where their shared commitment to excellence sparked a bond that soon blossomed into a relationship.
The couple officially started dating in April 2023 but kept things quiet until going public four months later with a heartfelt Instagram post captioned, “Best end to summer.” The photo of the two cozied up on a boat quickly caught fans’ attention, marking the beginning of their public love story.
From college athletes to professional teammates in life
As their careers took off in different directions, Clark into the spotlight of the WNBA and McCaffery into coaching, the couple has continued to prioritize their relationship. In April 2024, McCaffery posted a touching tribute on Instagram celebrating their one-year anniversary: “One year w the best, doing life w u has been easy, and you never cease to amaze me… can’t wait to watch u live out ur dreams in person, love you.”
Clark returned the sentiment, writing: “One year of the best mems w my fav person, you make everyday better and I can’t wait for many more adventures together… love you.”
The mutual admiration between the two hasn’t waned. When they reached two years together in April 2025, Clark shared: “Another year with my favorite person I’m so thankful for you,” while McCaffery added, “2 years keep being u.”
Their relationship milestones often play out publicly, but they reflect a deeply personal connection rooted in support and understanding.
McCaffery, who had been working with the Indiana Pacers as a player development coordinator, later took on a new role as an assistant coach at Butler University. Clark has always been quick to cheer him on. Likewise, McCaffery is often among the first to show public praise for Clark’s achievements. When she broke the NCAA scoring record in February 2024, he wrote: “So proud. Love you 22.”
Even after Iowa’s heartbreaking NCAA championship loss, he made sure she felt the love, calling her “My GOAT” in a social media post that resonated widely among fans.
