In a dreadful Sunday Night Football showing, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the New York Giants 22-9 to earn their first win of the season, while the Giants dropped to 0-3. Throughout the night, the crowd relentlessly booed Russell Wilson, who threw two interceptions in a miserable performance.
There had been some hope after last week’s loss, when Wilson threw for 450 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys. However, in the home opener against the Chiefs, Wilson completed just 18 of 32 passes for 160 yards and was picked off twice.
On the other side, the Chiefs got the win, but with such a poor overall display, it seems unlikely they’ll be able to compete with the top teams in the AFC. Patrick Mahomes finished with 224 yards and one touchdown pass, but he constantly struggled to find rhythm.
Fans chant for Jaxson Dart
After the Giants’ offense stalled again late in the first half, frustrated fans at MetLife Stadium began chanting “We want Dart” over and over. Not long after, Wilson threw his second interception of the game.
There was hope that Brian Daboll would put Jaxson Dart in to start the second half, but that didn’t happen. Dart only came in for three plays, all of which were runs – one of them a 3-yard carry – and he wasn’t allowed to throw a single pass.
The quarterback saga in New York will continue this week. Some insiders had hinted that if Wilson performed poorly against the Chiefs, Dart could start next Sunday at home against the Los Angeles Chargers. That makes this week a crucial one to watch.
The Giants’ best player on the night was rookie Cam Skateebo, who had 10 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown. He also added 61 receiving yards, leading the team in both rushing and receiving.
