The 2025-2026 NBA season has not yet officially begun, but the Golden State Warriors are preparing to fight hard and get another shot at the title.
Meanwhile, while still playing preseason games, one of the team’s stars made a confession that got Warriors fans talking.
Green opens up about his past
The 35-year-old forward, Draymond Green, has been recognized for his admirable defense and innate leadership, but also for not hiding what he feels or thinks.
In this regard, in conversation with Rachaad White of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and journalist Jordan Schultz, the four-time All-Star confessed that, during his youth, he used to go out and drink, even before games with his team:
“I’ve been out the night before a game, drinking until 6:00 in the morning, and had a triple-double when I was younger in the league. I had several nights like that,” Green said.
Draymond explained that he found this “motivating”: “the last thing I wanted someone to be able to say was he’s playing bad because he was out last night. So for me, I would lock in on a totally different level because you’re not going to be able to say that about me. Like if I play bad, I play bad because I just had a bad night, not because I was out.”
However, the four-time NBA champion also differentiated between his mindset during regular season games and playoff games, stating that the latter required more discipline.
For this reason, Green said he preferred not to go out late at night, let alone drink alcohol, make those “sacrifices,” and take the opportunity to win into his own hands before it was too late: “If that can’t wait one extra week, you really don’t want the ring.”
Without a doubt, Draymond’s confession not only reveals the change in his mindset during his fourteen years in the league, but also how he has learned from his mistakes and grown stronger.
And while Green’s words may take some fans by surprise, the truth is that they also reveal how discipline and perspective are often acquired over time, through hard work and maturity gained from experience.
