The Toronto Blue Jays’ desire to keep Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in their ranks is such that they are about to make him a new contract proposal and also fulfill the wishes of the 26-year-old Dominican player.

Guerrero, who would become a free agent at the end of the current season, could become one of the most sought-after players on the market, after even the New York Yankees have not hidden their interest in acquiring his services, despite the fact that on previous occasions the Dominican has expressed his dislike for the New York team.

“While there was a flurry of extensions last week, no extension is more anticipated than the $500 million contract expected to be received by Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., perhaps this week,” analyst Bob Nightengale noted.

The MLB specialist explained that it is a contract that should have been finalized some months ago, but negotiations between the two parties are ongoing with the hope that the player will stay with the Canadian team, and it seems an agreement is closer than ever.

The new deal is expected to keep him in Toronto for at least the next 14 years, and if not, Guerrero could go to the Yankees or Mets, and worse, lose him without receiving a single penny in return.

Reports are that the new jerseys are even already being printed, so the Blue Jays, in addition to securing the services of their most valuable player, will have launched an explosive contract for the league.

The New York threat looming in the air

Although there are still a few weeks to go before the trade window closes, the longer it drags on, the more teams are attracted to the idea of signing Guerrero Jr, who has publicly expressed his love for the team and the city on numerous occasions.

As if all this wasn’t enough, his interaction with some Mets players has sparked further rumors. Trade rumors may be overblown, but the timing could not be more opportune thanks in part to Steve Cohen‘s bulging bank account, this could be more than just words and the trade could be closer to completion than expected.

If the Blue Jays don’t act quickly, they could see their best player leave and hit home runs in another uniform.
