Victor Wembanyama is one of the most electrifying basketball players in the world, and the French center for the San Antonio Spurs could become the most dominant big man in the NBA.
However, he needs to fully recover from deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right shoulder, which kept him on the sidelines after the All-Star break. He subsequently underwent surgery.
Wembanyama is expected to be fully recovered for the start of the 2025-26 NBA season. Recent photos and reports indicate he is back on the court, shooting hoops, and progressing in his recovery, including weightlifting. The Spurs hope to have Victor and Rookie of the yearStephon Castle playing together for a full season.

Victor Wembanyama is currently spending 10 days at the Shaolin Temple in Zhengzhou, China, where he is focused on “closed-door martial arts training” and deepening his spiritual journey as part of his recovery process from deep vein thrombosis.
At the temple, the 21-years-old was seen running with the monks, fully immersed in their training, and wearing their characteristic clothing. He even shaved his head to blend in, an act that has captured attention in China and around the world because of Wemby’s superstar status.
His towering height of 7’3 impressed locals and tourists alike, with some describing him as the tallest monk in history. And a video of Wemby showing off his Kung-fu moves while posing for a picture with martial arts experts. “Clear he’s not a fighter like that lol, has potential to be extremely limber though, would be a scary kickboxer/taewkondo/kung-fu type of guy with that length,” an X user commented.
An impressive journey
When the San Antonio Spurs selected Wembanyama as the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, they gained a generational talent. The team from the heart of Texas bore witness to the “Wembmania” phenomenon that swept across the league when the French prodigy’s signing was announced.
And Wemby did not disappoint during his first season in the NBA. With a number of historic performances, he ended the season having played 71 games with an average of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and a league-leading 3.6 blocks per game.
To top it off, he was also unanimously named Rookie of the Year. After his impressive NBA season, he returned to his home country to play his first international tournament with France: the Olympic Games Paris 2024, where he led his nation to the silver medal with 15.8 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.
