The protest by Estudiantes de La Plata against “the designated champion” of Argentine soccer has led to a “war” between the club and the Argentine Football Association (AFA). Fans of different teams and the media have given this warlike connotation to a conflict that already involved the wife of Juan Sebastian Veron, president of the Pincharrata, and Lionel Messi in a controversial publication that was false.
Let’s remember that Estudiantes de La Plata declined to vote for Rosario Central as the annual league champion for the sum of its two tournaments. This action by the club was considered an affront by the AFA, which in response forced the red and white team to make the traditional corridor to the monarch. Los del Pincha complied with the imposition, but they did so by turning their backs on the Rosario team. They turned towards the stands as a sign of protest.
The demonstration by Estudiantes was applauded by fans of other teams. They recognized that their stance was dignified and courageous. However, the AFA did not like it at all. As a way of revenge, it sanctioned the La Plata club, mainly its president, ‘La Brujita’ Veron, with a six-month suspension.
The conflict escalated to Lionel Messi when the player has nothing to do with the situation. In the same way, Valentina Martin, Veron’s partner, was also involved. What happened? A supposed story of her on Instagram was leaked where she strongly criticized the Inter Miami star for having friendship with ‘Chiqui’ Tapia, president of the AFA.
The Miami native, the Englishman, the sellout… The one who came back, the one who made us bigger, the only one who has balls, and who I know fights to make everything a little better and who is more Argentine than the guy who won the World Cup and lives in Miami
Like a snowball, the controversy grew bigger. Messi’s followers lashed out at Veron and his wife. In contrast, fans of Estudiantes de La Plata and sympathizers with their cause went against Leo. There was back and forth between both parties over a publication that, in the end, did not exist. The president of the Pincha denied that Valentina Martin had published such nonsense.
Veron denies the story
After learning that the AFA had sanctioned him for six months from exercising his position as head of Estudiantes de La Plata, Juan Sebastian Veron gave an interview to La Nacion to clarify what happened with the alleged story published by his wife on social networks. Simple and forceful, he said it was false.
There are a lot of issues with all this and I understand that everyone does their job, but I’m tired of having to deny and disengage from this type of thing
Messi had nothing to do with the situation between the club and the AFA officials. Someone came up with that story to create unnecessary controversy.
It was already said to be fake
The same day that Valentina Martin’s alleged story against Leo Messi was revealed, marketing specialists indicated that it was fake news. They analyzed the wording, tone, typography and intention to ensure that it was an idle exercise to provoke controversy.
