When Tyson Fury announced his retirement, yet again, no one really believed he was being serious. After all, he had done similar things in the past then came back when the right opportunity arose. This time around, it seemed like that opportunity would be a trilogy fight against Oleksandr Usyk.
A third fight hasn’t materialized yet, though. Fury hasn’t fought since losing to Usyk a second time last December. Meanwhile, Usyk took down Daniel Dubois again since then. The wait hasn’t been easy for Fury, which forced him to entertain a potential British mega fight against Anthony Joshua. That bout had been talked about for years, but it seemed like a real possibility this time around. That doesn’t seem to be the case any longer.
Tyson Fury only wants to fight Oleksandr Usyk in retirement return
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has come out and said Fury does not want to wait around for Joshua to do a tune-up fight before taking on the Gypsy King. Regardless of that, Fury’s focus is solely on Usyk.
There’s a lot of talk about Joshua, there’s a lot of talk about Joshua having a tune-up up so there’s no way he’s going to sit around waiting. The fight he really wants is another go with Mr. Usyk, he really wants that. And they were great fights, really close fights, to watch. I’d watch that again. That’s the fight he wants. That’s the one he talks about all the time.
The problem right now is that no one knows what Usyk’s plan is. Even Warren admitted that “I don’t know what he’s going to do“. Usyk may be waiting to see what happens when Joseph Parker and Fabio Wardley face off at the end of October.
