As if boxing fans weren’t spoiled enough earlier this year, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk decided to give them another treat before the calendar turned and the book on 2024 was closed. This weekend, the two heavyweight kings will fight in a rematch of their epic first fight that took place in May. Usyk came out on top on the back of an electrifying ninth round, and it was only a matter of time before a rematch came.
Given that he won the first fight and he’s yet to lose in his professional career, Usyk is the favorite, but not by much. Fury was in control at the beginning of the first fight before Usyk really turned it on in the middle and late rounds, so many believe this second bout is a toss-up. Given the magnitude of the fight, journalists have been hard at work getting predictions from some of the most notable boxers the sport has seen.
Lennox Lewis gives his expert opinion on Usyk-Fury 2
Since Fury and Usyk have dominated the heavyweight division in recent years, it’s only right that we get the opinion of those heavy hitters who reigned supreme in the past. So when Lennox Lewis was asked to give his opinion on the upcoming fight, boxing fans had their ears perked up. Although he loves Usyk, he refuses to count Fury out, calling him one of a kind.
You can’t just say Usyk’s got this in the bag, you can’t count Fury out. Hell no! We don’t know which Fury we’re gonna get. The man can box, he can press forward, he can dance around that ring. Fury can do whatever he feels like to get the win. He can switch to southpaw, go orthodox – it doesn’t matter. Who else in history could do that? Nobody does it like Fury.
Despite Lewis’ kind words about Fury, he admits that Usyk is “one hell of a man“, saying he’s in the best shape of any heavyweight in history. Lewis points out Usyk turning it on in the first fight after the start of the fight, going at Fury non-stop despite looking to be down on the scorecards.
One thing is for sure: fans will be getting a spectacle this weekend, no matter who wins.
