Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh offered an optimistic update on star forward Angel Reese‘s recovery from a back injury.
Absent for the past seven games since the All-Star break, Reese has been sorely missed, both in production and presence – but that could soon change.
Reese, the WNBA‘s leading rebounder with 12.6 boards per game and a vital creative force, has been progressing steadily in the team’s return to health.
Marsh revealed that Reese was back on the practice floor, participating fully in non-contact drills ahead of Chicago‘s upcoming game.
While Marsh refrained from naming a firm return date, his tone suggested that her comeback is not far off.
Closing in on a return
Marsh explained that Reese “looked great” during practice and “fit right in – as if she hadn’t missed any time off.”
Her chemistry with teammates remains intact, and she quickly picked up team strategies heading into the next game.
While the coach made clear that no official decision had been made, he added, “It is possible” that she could suit up in the immediate matchup – pending evaluation at shootaround.
Chicago‘s 8-25 record has them positioned well outside playoff contention, but Reese’s return could inject much-needed energy.
Despite the standings, her influence transcends the scoreboard. As Marsh said, “With 11 games left, we don’t want it to be a game where people are just looking to play Chicago… We want to know there’s going to be a fight each night.” Reese’s presence clearly aligns with that fighting spirit.
Even if her return won’t alter the Sky‘s playoff fate, it signals meaningful progress for a team reshaping its identity under Marsh’s leadership.
Reese’s reappearance would be far more than symbolic – it would restore a competitive edge, a spark, and a tangible reason for fans to rally behind the Sky’s final push of the season.
