Chicago Sky ended their eight-game losing streak and defeated Washington Mystics 78-64 at Wintrust Arena.

However, this game was the third that Angel Reese missed due to a back injury, and her return to the court is unknown. Fortunately, the team was able to overcome her absence, and one of her teammates was key to the victory.

Sky coach praises one of his players

Coach Tyler Marsh‘s decision to include Elizabeth Williams in the starting lineup and bring her off the bench was crucial for the team.

The forward had already taken the court against the Phoenix Mercury to replace Rebecca Allen. There, she shone, contributing 15 points and 15 rebounds in 21 minutes of play, so her coach did not hesitate to consider her for the game against the Mystics.

Now, Elizabeth added 18 points in 36 minutes of action. She also had two assists, 10 rebounds, and one steal. Williams was praised by Sky’s coach, according to reporter Karli Bell, who even compared her to the team’s star, Angel Reese:

She’s really set the tone from an energy standpoint. She’s picked up what we’ve missed with Angel being out. Liz is just a savvy vet.

Undoubtedly, her performance and a new victory for the team that was in a winning drought has sparked joy and hope among her fans and the team.

Despite Marsh‘s words, the 32-year-old forward has only played nine games as a starter. After her performance against the Mystics and with the 23-year-old forward’s persistent injury, we are likely to continue seeing her in Sky games.

The truth is that Reese‘s absence was felt on the team, as she led in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.6 points and 12.6 rebounds.

Now, Chicago is preparing to host the Atlanta Dream on Thursday, August 7, at Wintrust Arena. Will they extend their winning streak?
