Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift‘s relationship became one of the biggest celebrity stories of 2023 when Swift made a surprise appearance at Arrowhead Stadium in September to support the Kansas City Chiefs. However, according to Kelce’s next-door neighbor, the romance had been going on long before Swift’s public debut at the game.
Wes Bergmann, a reality TV personality known for The Challenge, recently revealed that he had firsthand knowledge of their relationship six months before it became public. Despite his efforts to share the news, he claims no one took him seriously.
Kelce and Swift‘s romance seemed to take the world by storm when she sat alongside Kelce’s mother at the Chiefs’ game against the Chicago Bears. Fans quickly speculated that their relationship had just begun, but Bergmann insists it had been going on in secret for quite some time.
Speaking on the RHAP Podcast with Michele Fitzgerald and Kellie Nalbandian, Bergmann shared how he first learned about the relationship while living next door to Kelce in their private gated community in Leawood, Kansas City.
“He’s an enigma – on one hand, he’s this big, tough football player,” Bergmann explained. “On the other, he’s going to have about 12 Taylor Swift songs written about him.”
He then revealed that he had been aware of the romance long before it became public knowledge.
“I was like the first person to know about any of this stuff,” he said. “And I tried to tell this woman (podcast host Fitzgerald) a long time ago, ‘They are together, just so you know,’ and she didn’t believe it!”
Bergmann recalled that many people dismissed his claims, with Fitzgerald arguing that Swift “only goes for artists.” However, Bergmann remained firm in his assertion that Kelce and Swift had been a couple for months before the world caught on.
Did Taylor Swift’s Timeline Overlap with Matty Healy?
If Bergmann‘s claims are true, it raises questions about Swift‘s reported timeline with Kelce. The singer was briefly linked to The 1975 frontman Matty Healy in early summer 2023.
Their rumored romance surfaced in May but ended by June. If Swift and Kelce were already together at that point, it suggests a potential overlap between the two relationships.
However, Swift herself has provided insight into how things really started with Kelce. In a December 2023 interview with TIME Magazine, she explained that their relationship began after Kelce publicly mentioned her on his New Heights podcast.
“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift said.
“We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other.”
She also clarified that by the time she attended her first Chiefs game, they were already in a committed relationship.
“I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date,” Swift explained.
Security Concerns and Kelce’s NFL Future
As Kelce‘s relationship with Swift became a global phenomenon, the tight end also faced growing security concerns. In October 2023, his $6 million home in Leawood was broken into, with valuable watches, cash, and memorabilia stolen.
Following the break-in, Kelce reportedly upgraded his security, installing high-tech surveillance systems, additional lighting, and acquiring two guard dogs. His teammate, Patrick Mahomes, also had his home targeted on the same day, leading to speculation that professional athletes were being deliberately targeted by criminal groups.
The FBI has since been investigating a suspected international crime ring linked to the break-ins, with authorities charging seven Chilean nationals in connection with burglaries involving Mahomes, Kelce, and even NBA star Luka Doncic.
