Taylor Swift has been in the spotlight recently, as between the subpoena over Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s lawsuit and her recent rekindled public feud with rapper Kanye West, Swift is very busy these days, but on Friday she was again embroiled in even greater controversy.
Suddenly, President Donald Trump lashed out at Swift on social media, causing a stir among netizens.
Donald Trump ‘dreams’ that a comment of his ends anyone’s career
“Is it true that it hasn’t been fashionable to go to her concerts since I said I didn’t like her music?” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump’s comments led to the president of the American Federation of Musicians, Tino Gagliardi, to issue a forceful statement in response, in which he criticized Trump for attacking Swift and Bruce Springsteen, whom he called overrated and an “unpleasant jerk”.
“Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift are not only brilliant musicians, but they are role models and inspiration for millions of people in the United States and around the world,” said Gagliardi.
Whether it’s Born in the USA or the Eras Tour, their music is timeless, impactful and deeply culturally meaningful. Musicians are entitled to freedom of expression and we stand in solidarity with all our members.
Travis Kelce furious with Trump comment
And while Trump’s comments irritated many on social media, they also resonated with Swift’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Kelce did not like Trump’s comment about Swift after the Super Bowl, and his comments this Friday reportedly angered him again.
“Travis is furious that the President of the United States is talking about his girl in this way,” a source told the Daily Mail. “It’s below the belt and there is no need for it. He is using it as motivation to be the best he can be on the field, especially if Trump keeps it up.”
As Travis can’t say anything publicly because that would just open another Pandora’s box, he has to find a way to vent, because he would love to protect Taylor and defend her. But keeping quiet is what he has to do right now.
Trump’s public treatment of Swift contrasts sharply with that of Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, of whom he has publicly declared himself a fan on multiple occasions.
Brittany supported Trump during the election last year, while Swift endorsed his opponent, Kamala Harris, and Trump has criticized Swift ever since.
