This was not how the 2024 season was supposed to end for Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs, who had enjoyed a perfect record when Taylor Swift attended a game during the campaign. With Swift in attendance for Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, many expected the Chiefs to complete the NFL‘s first-ever Super Bowl “three-peat”, after which Kelce would get down on one knee and propose marriage to Swift, whom he has dated for more than a year.
Instead, the Chiefs played their worst game of the season, as Kelce termed it. The Philadelphia Eagles spoiled Kansas City‘s party, jumping out to a 34-0 lead before winning 40-22, claiming the Lombardi Trophy and ending the Chiefs’ bid for history. It is possible that fans have just seen Kelce play in his final Super Bowl, his final NFL game, as the legendary tight end is reportedly devastated at the outcome of Super Bowl LIX.
Kelce is taking the loss in New Orleans “very hard”
A report Monday said that Swift — who had arrived in New Orleans two days before the Super Bowl — is “comforting” a distraught Kelce, who caught only four passes for 39 yards against the Eagles‘ swarming defense. The couple expected a Chiefs victory — and even though there was no marriage proposal forthcoming in The Big Easy, the “Down Bad” songstress could not be a prouder partner.
“Taylor knows Travis took this loss very hard but she couldn’t be more proud of him regardless of the outcome,” an insider revealed to Page Six.
Swift was booed heavily whenever she was shown on the big screen at the Superdome, a phenomenon which caused the pop sensation much bemusement. It was part of a stressful evening for Swift, who had little to cheer about from her $3 million suite as the Chiefs’ offense struggled for most of the game.
Despite the loss, the 35-year-olds have no plans to separate or take time apart. Rather, Kelce and Swift want to get away from it all and discuss the parameters of their relationship, which began in summer 2023. The two of them are set for a lengthy vacation now that football season is over, in addition to Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour. And during that time, Kelce may decide whether to continue his football career in 2025 after 12 stellar seasons.
“They knew that Taylor’s Eras Tour would be wrapping in December and football season would be coming to an end now so they had planned for this time to focus on some alone time to just be together,” the insider said.
