NFL star Travis Kelce was part of a shocking event at the 2024 American Century Championship golf tournament when he hit a fan in the head with a golf ball by mistake. This unfortunate moment happened at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Nevada, where Kelce was playing in a yearly charity event for celebrities.

People magazine said the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was at the 16th hole when his first hit went wrong and hit a young woman in the head. Those looking on saw she was bleeding, which led to fast help from Kelce and the event’s medical team.

Quick and kind response from the Chief’s tight end

Kelce, 34, was playing with his brother Jason Kelce and WWE’s Mike ‘The Miz‘ Mizanin. As soon as the incident took place, he walked fast to see the hurt woman. People saw him and describe him as visibly very worried, staying by her side until help came and took her for further treatment. His brother Jason, who just stopped playing for the Philadelphia Eagles not long ago, also looked really worried for her.

The injured fan was later known as Katie Hauss, a woman in her 20s. She attended People later and said how shocked she was by the hit:

When I put my hand to the back of my head, there was a lot of blood. I tried to stay really calm, and a good Samaritan nearby immediately applied pressure until help arrived

Katie Hauss, on the incident

Hauss went to a local hospital, got the needed stitches, and found out she had a mild concussion. She has since got better and said she feels perfect now.

Kelce’s apology

Though she was really shocked at first, Hauss said Kelce was very kind.

He was incredibly sweet. He kept asking if I was okay and stayed until he knew I was in good hands. He even offered to take a photo with me, which I appreciated-even under the circumstances

Hauss later posted a picture of her and Kelce smiling, even with her injury showing. She did not blame him for the accident, and his care was liked a lot by fans online.

An ironic note after some comments

Just before the game, Kelce joked on his ‘New Heights’ podcast with Jason, that if anyone gets hit at a golf event, do not feel bad, as they chose to come. Though he was joking, the real event was a sharp reminder of how these games can bring surprises.

Despite the upset, the American Century Championship went on as set, with stars and athletes like Aaron Rodgers, Steph Curry, and Tony Romo. The charity game happens every year in Lake Tahoe and is known for its fun feeling and fan interactions.

While the event could have gone worse, it ended with Kelce showing great sports spirit, responsibility, and care. Both media and fans praised him for how he managed a scary moment. For Katie Hauss, though it was sore, it turned into an unforgettable time with one of the NFL’s top stars.
