Rookie Travis Hunter is starting to turn heads in a big way at Jacksonville Jaguars OTAs. The WR/DB hybrid, known for his explosive two way play at Colorado, reportedly had his best practice yet as a wide receiver, and the hype is starting to feel very real.
Hunter caught five passes during full 11 on 11 work, more than any other Jaguars wide receiver that day. He even capped it off with a deep grab and a touchdown, leaving teammates and coaches wide eyed. But what really stood out wasn’t just the stat line it was how he got open.

Coaches have been quietly working with Hunter on minor footwork adjustments over the past few weeks, and the results are already paying off. His release off the line is cleaner, his cuts are sharper, and his overall speed through routes is noticeably faster. One observer said he looked “twitchier” than even Brian Thomas Jr., who’s widely expected to be the team’s WR1 this season.
That comparison is no small thing. Brian Thomas Jr. was drafted specifically to be a top weapon for Lawrence. But now, Hunter is starting to “position himself” as one of the quarterback’s favorite targets and possibly more than just a gadget player.
And that’s just his offensive side. Though Hunter is currently focusing on wide receiver duties, it’s been reported he’ll start taking reps on both sides of the ball as the season progresses. That opens the door for a potential historic rookie campaign.
