Prior to the 2025 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars already had plans to add players to strengthen their roster. This was made clear when they moved up from fifth to second place to select two-way player Travis Hunter from the Colorado Buffaloes.
Before the draft, Hunter also stated that he would not play for a team that did not allow him to play both ways, and the Jaguars would not be the ones to limit him. In fact, they already had a plan to incorporate him: on both sides of the ball. For this reason, he was expected to shine as a cornerback and wide receiver.
Given this, Liam Coen, the Jaguars’ coach, assured that Hunter has been working as a wide receiver during training on Tuesday, May 27, but not as a cornerback. This is because he will not train two different positions on the same day.
“We won’t put him in that situation to have him do that, although I’m sure he’d probably want to,” Coen said, via the team’s website. “He still meets defensively every day that he’s on offense, so he’s getting the mental part of it and is able to catch up on some of the communication, some of the corrections off the film from the defensive side of the ball.”
In addition, Coen said that because of the different jobs Hunter does when he changes positions, the 22-year-old could be under a lot of pressure if he faces both on the same day: “He’s getting a lot of the mental and it would probably be unfair to put him out on the grass and do both and ask him to go do that and see success.”
Hunter’s numbers
Travis became one of the most decorated players in college football history during his time with the Colorado Buffaloes. He won eight major awards, including the Heisman, and ended his career with nearly 2,000 receiving yards, 21 total touchdowns, and seven interceptions, playing on both sides of the ball.
Another plus is his positive energy, which seems to have increased even more after his recent marriage to the love of his life, Leanna Lenee.
His joy is complemented by his precision, boundless energy, and skill, which did not go unnoticed during practice. Travis is undoubtedly in a very good place right now.
Now, with Liam Coen and the Jaguars, the player is expected to explore his abilities on both sides of the ball and continue to showcase his talent.
