The 2025 American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe brought the usual mix of celebrity competition and summertime fun, but this year’s main attraction wasn’t a winning golf shot or surprise appearance from Taylor Swift-it was the Kelce brothers, Travis and Jason, who turned Edgewood Tahoe into a chaotic highlight reel of golf mishaps, wildlife encounters, and heartfelt apologies.
NFL star Travis Kelce referred to the tournament as a “last-minute family vacation” before the grind of training camp kicks off. Despite ongoing rumors, Swift skipped the celebrity event, letting the Kelces soak up the spotlight-and they delivered.
Teaming up with actor Miles Teller, the brothers joined a 90-person celebrity field featuring legends like Stephen Curry, Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo, and Ray Allen.
But fans got more than they bargained for when unexpected guests arrived. During the first round, a massive black bear casually wandered near the 16th hole as Travis and Jason lined up for a shot.
Spectators pulled out their phones while even players stopped mid-swing to capture the surreal moment. Just hours later, another bear was spotted perched in a tree above hole No. 8, silently observing the action below like an uninvited VIP.
Mishaps and redemption on the green
The brothers’ golf games left plenty to be desired-Jason finished last at 86th while Travis tied for 63rd-but it was their fan interactions that made headlines. Jason accidentally hit a woman in the foot with a golf ball during the frenzy.
He addressed it publicly, saying, “You all make it what it is, sorry to the woman I hit in the foot, and thank you to all that attended!”
Travis, on the other hand, continued his accidental tradition of hitting spectators. During Saturday’s “boozy round,” he struck a fan in the neck with an errant shot. Thankfully, the fan was unhurt and took it in stride.
Travis smoothed things over with his usual charm: a selfie and an autograph. This was his second such incident at Edgewood; last year he accidentally hit someone in the back of the head.
Despite the mishaps, both brothers kept spirits high. Jason proudly showed off his consolation prize-a quirky “Most Valuable Thrower” trophy featuring T.J. Oshie’s face and a red Solo cup.
Meanwhile, Travis continues to build his off-field legacy through the New Heights podcast with Jason while remaining Patrick Mahomes’ go-to target heading into the 2025 season.
In typical Kelce fashion, their Tahoe adventure was messy, loud, and unforgettable-and the fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
