The cause of death of Brett Gardner’s son, has already been confirmed with toxicology results.
The teenager lost his life on March 21 from carbon monoxide inhalation while on vacation with his family in Costa Rica, local authorities said.
“Toxicology results have already been received, and the carboxyhemoglobin test showed a saturation of 64%. Concentrations higher than 50% are already lethal,” said Randall Zuniga, director of the Judicial Investigation Agency, in a press release.
“In this case, the percentage saturation is higher, which confirms the police hypothesis that the death was due to carbon monoxide exposure,” it added.
Zuñiga said the case surrounding Miller’s death was closed, after the toxicology results were revealed.
The 14-year-old was found dead in his room at the Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort, after falling ill under strange circumstances.
Initially, it was speculated that Brett Gardner’s son may have died from asphyxiation, a theory that was quickly ruled out
There was also talk of food poisoning, as other family members said they felt unwell after a meal on the night of March 20.
Page Six notes that on Monday, Costa Rican authorities said investigators detected high levels of carbon monoxide contamination in the Gardner family’s room at the hotel.
Zuñiga commented that next to his accommodation there was a specialised machine room, from which some kind of contamination could have reached the rooms.
The next day, Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort denied this information.
“The levels in the room were non-existent and non-lethal. There was an error in this initial report,” the hotel told The Post on Tuesday. It reiterated that the high levels were not detected in the room, only in the machine room.
However, resort staff closed the room “as a precaution.”
The hotel declined to comment on the results
Page Six sought statements from the exclusive resort, but they chose not to comment: “Out of respect for the ongoing judicial process and the privacy of the family, we will refrain from commenting on hypotheses or possible causes.”
“Our priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff, and we reaffirm our ongoing commitment to the highest operational standards at our facilities,” the hotel added.
Miller’s body has already been released to the Gardners and they are already making funeral arrangements, the Post reported
