Tommy Fury could use an unusual contract clause in his fight with Darren Till in Manchester.

Fury has been out of action since 2023, when he managed a controversial win over KSI, continuing to dip his toe in the world of influencer boxing.

But his return is already scheduled, with a bout with Till set for January 18 in Manchester. We have already seen a heated press conference take place for the launch, with the ever controversial John Fury once again taking center stage by throwing a water bottle at Till.

Till, who is an MMA fighter, said in the press conference: “At the end of the day, I can’t beat you, I’ll just kick you in the face in there. How about that? I’m a proper fighter, not a boxer. I don’t walk in a room like this and see boxing and go, ‘sh*t’.

“I walk in, no one here is a threat to me. Not one person in this room, security, you, your dad are not a threat to me. I’m an MMA fighter, so if I want to kick you or elbow you in the face, I will, and no one can do anything about it.”

Fury could protect himself

Amid threats of MMA moves from Till, Fury could protect himself by inserting a clause in the contract that would see the MMA fighter hand over all of his purse should he stray from the rules of boxing.

Such a move hasn’t been touted by Fury himself, but a similar clause was used in Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr’s fight back in 2017. The clause was inserted to protect Mayweather in case McGregor resorted to kicking or worse.

“There is a huge penalty clause in the contract,” UFC president Dana White revealed to Yahoo Sports at the time. “The athletic commission would keep the entire purse and decide what to do.”
