The greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady, will be immortalized at Gillette Stadium on Friday, August 8.
Yes, the same one who put the New England Patriots in the spotlight and dethroned Joe Montana from the Olympus of quarterbacks will have his own altar. The Patriots are paying tribute to their most glorious son.
The New England Patriots will unveil a 12-foot statue of their most illustrious player, the man who changed the DNA of a franchise, the man who turned a 199th pick into the most brutal story ever told by the NFL.
What time will Tom Brady’s ceremony be?
The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. (ET) at Patriot Place Plaza, right next to the team’s Hall of Fame. What better place! The New England Hall of Immortals will have its greatest member on its doorstep.
And there is only one thing to say about Tom Brady: Hail, Tom!
Only those with tickets to see the game that night against the Washington Commanders will be able to be there in person, but if you want to join in the liturgy you can watch it on the team’s official website, Patriots.com, the team’s social media and on WBZ-TV.
Brady, bronze. But flesh and legend
The master of ceremonies could only be Robert Kraft, the owner and patriarch of the team. Brady will be there, of course. He will give a speech, he will cry – he has always been very emotional – and the fans will be with him, watching.
Everyone will be able to take their selfie, or their postcard, or whatever with the statue and Foxborough will have another sacred page in its history.
But this is not just for nostalgia. It’s for justice. Brady was not just a quarterback. He was the embodiment of victory. His legacy:
- 89,214 passing yards
- 649 regular season touchdowns
- 88 playoff TD passes
- Seven Super Bowl rings
- Five Super Bowl MVPs
New England Patriots: before and after Tom Brady
That 199th NFL pick, with no projections, just another one, changed the landscape. Just like that, as if he didn’t want to, he took over in 2001. He split the history of football in two and began to write the story of the 21st century himself.
And it’s true, before and after Tom Brady, that’s how American football should be divided. Without him, New England was just a footnote, a reference, and a hyperlink more lost in the web of a system.
With him was born an empire, a dynasty, a religion.
Schedule to watch the ceremony live
- The stadium doors open at 5:00 p.m.
- Parking from 3:30 p.m.
- The event lasts 15 to 20 minutes, but the excitement will be eternal
- The game against the Commanders is after the act
Tom Brady, the most loved and hated.
With Tom Brady, there are no half measures, there can’t be. Men like him go through life leaving such an indelible mark that you can’t be indifferent.
Brady is not loved throughout the NFL. In fact, in many cities he is detested. It’s no wonder! The whole country suffered from his genius, but in Boston he is revered.
The city that applauded Larry Bird, Ted Williams, Bobby Orr, Big Papi and Bill Russell. And yet, for many, Tom is above them all.
When the bronze is unveiled that night, it won’t be just a figure. It will be a statement: the best lived and played here. And although he is no longer on the field, Brady is, was and will be a Patriot forever.
