The English press is fueling a rumored relationship between world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz and British tennis player Emma Raducanu, currently No. 38 in the WTA rankings
Some images of the Spanish tennis player with Raducanu in London have gone viral on social networks and several British media have echoed the possible relationship between them.
In addition, the fact that the two tennis players will form a mixed doubles pair at the upcoming US Open has further fueled the rumors
Despite everything, neither Carlos Alcaraz nor Emma Raducanu have commented on the matter, although the Spaniard did make these statements after playing at Queen’s: “I’ve seen on social media that Raducanu has come to watch my match. I was focused on my match and I couldn’t see her. It was great to have her in the crowd. I’d love to train with her in mixed doubles, but it will depend on the schedule.”
US Open winner at just 18 years of age
At just 18 years of age and in only her second Grand Slam tournament, Emma Raducanu burst onto the tennis scene by being crowned 2021 US Open champion. She became the first British player to win a major in the Open era.
Emma Raducanu was born on November 13, 2002 in Toronto, Canada, but moved to London when she was just two years old. With a Chinese mother (Renee) and a Romanian father (Ian), Raducanu grew up in a cultural mix that strongly influenced both her discipline and her competitive mentality. She learned the value of hard work from an early age, and applied it to sport from the time she started playing tennis at the age of five.
Until mid-2021, she was practically unknown outside the youth circuit. But her breakthrough at Wimbledon 2021, reaching the last 16 as a wild card, was just the prologue to what was to come: the 2021 US Open, where Raducanu became the first tennis player – male or female – to win a Grand Slam coming from the qualifying round. She did so without dropping a single set in ten matches. It was a historic feat that catapulted her to overnight stardom.
Pressure came, coaching changes, injuries…
After her title in New York, Raducanu faced a new challenge: pressure. She faced constant changes of coaches, multiple injuries and constant scrutiny from the British media. Although she has not been able to replicate her US Open feat, she has shown glimpses of her talent in tournaments such as Indian Wells or Stuttgart, and remains a key figure in British tennis.
Between 2022 and 2024, her career has been marked by ups and downs, interruptions due to wrist and ankle injuries and absences from major tournaments. However, her youth, power from the back of the court and calmness in decisive moments keep alive the hopes that she was not a one-tournament champion.
Lover of mathematics
Emma Raducanu has handled her growing fame with unusual maturity. Passionate about mathematics and a speaker of Mandarin and Romanian, the young Briton has managed to combine her sporting life with a growing presence in the entertainment and fashion world. She has been the face of global brands such as Dior, Tiffany & Co, Nike and British Airways, and has become a symbol of the new face of British sport: multicultural, ambitious and modern.
Away from the track, she is reserved, focused and committed to her personal development. She has expressed interest in continuing her university studies in the future and has kept her personal life away from scandals. Her relationship with her parents remains very close, and they continue to guide many of her professional decisions.
